Itinerary
Day 1, Fri., Aug. 24 – Fairbanks – Travel from Baton Rouge (or home airports) to the “Golden Heart City” of
Fairbanks, Alaska’s former gold rush boomtown. Check into our hotel and get ready to begin our fabulous adventure.
Day 2, Sat., Aug. 25– Fairbanks/ Denali – Morning cruise along the Chena River on an authentic Sternwheeler
Riverboat. We learn much about Alaskan life – natives, racing dogs, bush pilots, etc. Then we’re bound for Denali
National Park via a scenic motorcoach trip. Overnight at the Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge.
Day 3, Sun., Aug. 26– Denali / Mt. McKinley– This morning we enjoy a guided tour into the huge park. This
Natural History Tour by motorcoach helps us appreciate the early explorers, animals and flora. Afternoon free for
shopping and other personal activities. Short journey by motorcoach to Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness lodge.
Day 4, Mon., Aug. 27 – Mt. McKinley/ Whittier – Hopefully we will be able to see Mt. McKinley, North America’s
highest mountain. Transfer to Talkeetna for our Direct-to-the-Wilderness Princess Rail journey through Anchorage
and on to coastal Whittier. This rail journey is through stunning scenery. At Whittier we board our Princess cruise.
Day 5, Tues., Aug. 28– Cruise – Hubbard Glacier – We see the largest actively calving tidewater glacier face in all
of Alaska.
Day 6, Wed., Aug. 29 – Cruise – Glacier Bay National Park – Park rangers join our ship as we sail into pristine
Glacier Bay. We see a number of glaciers up close and a day you will remember.
Day 7, Thurs., Aug. 30 – Cruise – Skagway – We dock at Skagway for the day – a delightful place with a lot to do.
Easy to catch the gold rush fever. Beautiful sights as we cruise through the narrow Lynn Canal (fjord). Many consider
this the most beautiful area of Alaska. (Excursions in Skagway are optional).
Day 8, Fri., Aug. 31 – Cruise –_Juneau – A day to explore and enjoy the capital of Alaska. Perhaps visit
Mendenhall Glacier. (Excursions in Juneau are optional). Visit historic downtown and the Red Dog Saloon.
Day 9, Sat., Sept. 1 – Cruise – Ketchikan– Noted for fishing and totem poles. Visit the historic area along the
river. (Excursions in Ketchikan are optional).
Day 10, Sun., Sept. 2 – Cruise – Inside Passage – Scenes of magnificent wilderness appear along the inside passage.
Day 11, Mon., Sept. 3– Home – This morning we dock at Vancouver, Canada and transfer to our flight home, arriving
the same day and with many wonderful memories.
