Rate of $6,170.00 is for inside cabin, per person, double occupancy and based on availability. Ocean view cabins are available for approximately $1300 more per person. Single rates are an additional 75% of the cruise fare (for an inside cabin, that is approximately $4,400.00).
Itinerary
Day 1 Sunday, Jan. 9 – Depart home airports for overnight flight to Buenos Aires.
Day 2 Monday, Jan. 10 – Buenos Aires –A.M. arrival in Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina. City sightseeing. Overnight Buenos Aires.
Day 3 Tuesday, Jan. 11 – Buenos Aires – Ushuaia – embarkation – After breakfast, transfer to the airport for our flight to Ushuaia, the world’s southernmost city. We will enjoy an orientation tour of this popular and attractive resort town, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, rivers and waterfalls, before boarding MS Fram. In the evening an informative welcome meeting will be held.
Day 4 Wednesday, Jan. 12 - Cruise – Drake Passage – Less than two days will be spent crossing the Drake Passage. During the crossing numerous lectures will be held on fascinating Antarctica, considered one of the most breathtaking & beautiful continents. We will arrive in Antarctica on Day 5.
Day 5-10 Thursday, Jan. 13 – Tuesday, Jan. 18 – Cruise Antarctica – The “White Continent”, more than half the size of North America, is an endless wilderness. Weather, wind and ice conditions will determine the program and schedule but highlights should include the following:
- Deception Island –a flooded volcanic caldera in the South Shetland Islands that’s home to Whaler’s Bay, an abandoned whaling station and former U.D. base.
- Half Moon Island, where there are cliffs house Chinstrap penguins, Antarctic terns, Kelp gulls and other birds.
- Yankee Harbor, rife with seals and about 4,000 breeding pairs of Gentoo penguins.
- Heading for the Antarctic Peninsula proper, we’ll see Cuverville Island, with the larges known colony of Gentoos in Antarctica
- Neko Harbor, a favorite Minke whale feeding ground.
- Paradise Harbor, named for its beauty and home to Gentoos and Chinstraps as well as Argentine and Chilean bases.
- Lemaire Channel, considered on the of the most beautiful passages in Antarctica – with Humpback and Killer whales, Elephant seals and all types of penguins.
- Petermann Island, favored by the southernmost Gentoo colony as well as Blue-eyed shags (Imperial cormorants) and Adelie penguins.
- Port Lockroy – where you can visit a museum run by the Antarctic Heritage Trust and mail postcards stamped and canceled with rare Antarctic stamps and frank.
- Wilhelmina Bay, scenic resting place of Norwegian whaling ship Guvernoren, which ran aground and burned in 1915.
- The 30-mile-long Antarctic Sound – dubbed “Iceberg Alley”, it’s a startling assortment of floating ice, including mile-long tabular icebergs.
- Brown Bluff, a 2,450-foot-high cliff at the tip of the peninsula that draws Adelie and Gentoo penguins, Kelp gulls and Weddell seals.
Day 11 Wednesday, Jan. 19 – Cruise Drake Passage – Our Antarctica expedition continues as we cross the 600 mile-plus Drake Passage back to Ushuaia. During the sailing time we will enjoy more informative lectures recapping our Antarctic tour.
Day 12 Thursday, Jan. 20 – Ushuaia/Buenos Aires – After breakfast we disembark in Ushuaia and transfer for a flight to Buenos Aires for overnight.
Day 13 Friday, Jan. 21 – Today we fly home, arriving the same day.
