Itinerary
Day 1, Saturday, Sept. 8 – Depart Baton Rouge.
Day 2, Sunday, Sept. 9 - Delhi – Arrive Delhi and transfer to our hotel for overnight.
Day 3, Monday, Sept. 10 - Delhi – Guided tour of Delhi, capital of India, seeing Qutub Minor; Humayun’s Tomb; India Gate; the Red Fort; and Raj Ghat, where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated. We enjoy a rickshaw ride to see a typical bazaar with narrow lanes and traditional traders.
Day 4, Tuesday, Sept. 11 - Agra – Morning motor coach to Agra, location of the Taj Mahal. Afternoon guided tour of Agra Fort.
Day 5, Wednesday, Sept. 12 - Jaipur – Morning guided tour of the Taj Mahal, a monument of love, beauty, imagination and art that represents India to the world. Afternoon drive to Jaipur; en route do a guided visit to Fatehpur Sikri. On arrival in Jaipur transfer to our hotel. Jaipur is called the “Pink City” and offers wonderful crafts – gems and jewelry, enamel and brassware, blue pottery, etc.
Day 6, Thursday, Sept. 13 - Jaipur – Morning guided excursion to Amber Fort. Here we ride decorated elephants, a thrilling experience. Also visit “Wind Palace”. Afternoon guided tour of Jaipur, visiting City Palace, Mubarak Hall and Singh’s Observatory. See snake charmers and dancing cobras.
Day 7, Friday, Sept. 14 – Kathmandu, Nepal – Morning drive to Delhi for flight to Kathmandu, capital of Nepal and a Himalayan Shangri-La. Transfer to our hotel.
Day 8, Saturday, Sept. 15 - Kathmandu – Morning guided tour of Patan, noted for Hindu and Buddhist temples. Afternoon guided tour of Kathmandu.
Day 9, Sunday, Sept. 16 - Kathmandu – Morning free for optional flyover of Mt. Everest, the world’s tallest. Afternoon tour of Bhatgoan.
Day 10, Monday, Sept. 17 – Paro, Bhutan – Mid-day flight to Bhutan, very isolated and beautiful, and very little touched by Western influence. Afternoon visit to a typical Bhutanese farmhouse and visit Paro Bazaar.
Day 11, Tuesday, Sept. 18 – Thimphu, Bhutan – Morning drive to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan en route visiting countryside. Thimphu is the only world capital without any traffic lights and is a storehouse of Bhutanese culture. Guided tour includes National Institute of Traditional Medicine.
Day 12, Wednesday, Sept. 19 - Paro – Morning in Thimphu. Afternoon drive to Paro.
Day 13, Thursday, Sept. 20 – Mid-day flight to Delhi. Gala dinner in Delhi. Night flight to U.S.A.
Day 14, Friday, Sept. 21- Arrive home.
