Itinerary

Day 1, Friday, December 3 – Early departure from Zachary/Baton Rouge with pick-ups en route to Galveston.  Lunch stop around noon.  Afternoon arrival at hotel in Galveston. This evening's holiday festival activities include a Hand Bell Concert  performed at St Joseph's Church Museum, the oldest wooden church in Galveston, built in 1859 as the first German Catholic Church in Texas. Afterwards, we will attend the Traditional Dickens Feast  at the magnificent Italianate Mansion, Ashton Villa, which was built in 1859, the first of Galveston's great Broadway mansions.  Here we will enjoy a prime rib dinner while staves from Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol are read between courses.

Day 2, Saturday, December 4 – After breakfast, a step-on guide joins us for a tour of Galveston's many historical and noteworthy sites.  Then return to the Dickens on the Strand Festival in time for all of the entertainment which includes magicians, musicians, hypnotists, acrobats and performers of all types. Love to shop? A vast array of costumed vendors peddling their wares from street stalls and rolling carts laden with culinary delights and Victorian inspired crafts of clothing, jewelry, holiday decorations and gift items just in time for the holidays!!!  Enjoy The Queen's Parade with Her Majesty Queen Victoria as she is escorted by a colorful guard of Beefeaters in her own royal parade in an elegant horse-drawn carriage. Others in the parade include skirling bagpipe bands, costumed characters and Victorian attired ladies and gentlemen, on foot and riding in decorated carriages and on horseback. Enjoy the afternoon Dickens Costume Contest, where ladies and gentlemen showcase their finest Victorian costumes. This evening we depart for Moody Gardens, where we will delight in a Holiday Buffet and then the Festival of Lights, a walking tour of thousands of lights in the lovely gardens.

Day 3, Sunday, December 5 After breakfast, we will visit the London Wharf and the 1877 Tall Ship ELISSA which is a National Historic Landmark.  London Wharf represents a time when the sun never set on the British Empire, with jaunty tunes of a concertina as "old salts" share tall tales of life at sea. Enjoy the demonstrations of traditional maritime skills and purchase unique nautical crafts made by volunteer crew members of the 1877 tall ship ELISSA. Afterwards, we'll enjoy a new addition to this year's festivities that should be lots of fun - the Victorian Bed Races!!!  Then, it's time to board our "Victorian horsepower-driven carriage"!! (motor coach) for a leisurely drive home remembering and sharing the good times we had!!!
