OAK ALLEY PLANTATION
This Greek Revival mansion was named for the two rows of beautiful live oaks, planted in the early 1700’s, that form a
quarter-mile alley from the Mississippi river to the house. Built 1837-39, Oak Alley has been restored and decorated with
period furniture. Our knowledgeable guide will be dressed in period costume. We will have opportunity to stroll the
plantation grounds and visit the gift shop before enjoying our included lunch. After lunch we head for the swamps.
INTERESTING- Before the Civil War more than half of the millionaires in the country lived along the Mississippi river
corridor between New Orleans and Natchez, their fortunes linked to the fertile land.
TORRES CAJUN SWAMP TOUR
Roland Torres owns and operates this highly regarded Swamp Tour. The boat is flat bottom, open sided with metal top.
It is large enough for a motor coach group. Very stable can walk about.
This narrated swamp boat tour takes us through local swamps and bayous, offering views of wildlife as we cruise beneath
the swamp’s moss-draped cypress and oak trees, hopeful to see alligators, blue herons, turtles, raccoons and minks.
It’s really a trek into wonderland. Also enjoy Torres’ unusual backyard located on the bayou. It’s a menagerie of creatures
and things native to the swamps and a part of the Cajun way of life – alligators, turtles, etc. All in all it’s a unique experience
anyone is sure to enjoy.
