Itinerary

 

Day 1, Monday, April 2 – San Antonio – Early morning departure from Zachary and Baton Rouge.  Take I-10 to San Antonio, with pickups along the way.   Arrive in San Antonio in time to enjoy the Riverwalk.  Hotel is near Riverwalk.

 

Day 2, Tuesday, April 3 - Fredericksburg – Morning visit to the Alamo, the most famous spot in Texas.   Also visit Market Square (El Mercado) area.  On the way to Fredericksburg we visit Luchenback, a tiny place known world-wide.   Two nights in the picturesque German “Hill Country” community of Fredericksburg.

 

Day 3, Wednesday, April 4 - Fredericksburg Morning countryside visit includes view of Enchanted Rock, a massive dome of solid pink granite, the scenic Willow City Drive.  Mid-day in Fredericksburg for lunch, sightseeing and shopping.   Afternoon visit to the nation’s largest working wildflower farm.

 

Day 4, Thursday, April 5 – Austin area – Morning in Fredericksburg.  Sightseeing in Austin and included dinner at the famous Salt Lick BBQ.

 

Day 5, Friday, April 6 – Short morning drive to Warrenton / Roundtop Antique and Flea Markets spread out for several miles.  Several hours to shop around before driving home, arriving Baton Rouge around 8:00 p.m.

 

 

WILD FLOWERS OF TEXAS – Every spring thousands from all over go out on the highways and byways of Texas to view the splendor of the blossoms of wild flowers.  Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja spp), Black-eyed Susans (Rudbeckia Hirta), Texas Bluebonnets, (Lupinus texensis), and many other wildflowers dot the landscape.  The primary flower, the main flower, the state flower of Texas, is the Texas bluebonnet.  (Weather can have an effect on the flowers – no guarantees)
