Your Itinerary

Day 1, Tues., June 5 – Fly from Baton Rouge (or other home airports) on overnight flight to Munich, Germany.

Day 2, Wed., June 6 – Salzburg, Austria - Morning arrival in Munich. Visit Dachau, infamous death camp of WWII. Then drive a short distance to Salzburg, Austria for brief sightseeing and overnight. Thus we have begun our days in the world’s most beautiful scenery – the Bavarian, Austrian, Swiss and French Alps.

Day 3, Thurs., June 7 – Salzburg/Ehrwald, Austria – Morning seeing the highlights of Salzburg such as Mozart’s birthplace. Our focus will be the “Sound of Music” tour. Much was filmed in the area. We visit the wedding chapel and more. Afternoon drive through beautiful scenery to Ehrwald and our wonderful hotel, home for four nights. The small and beautiful, scenic village on the south side of the Zugspitze mountain will be our base for day trips – dinner tonight at our hotel.

Day 4, Fri., June 8 – Ehrwald – Morning visit to Neuschwanstein, the fairytale castle built by Ludwig II, King of Bavaria, one of Europe’s premier tourist attractions. This castle was the model for Disney’s castle. Then afternoon visit to the quaint woodcarving village of Oberammergau, famous for its “Passion Play” performed every ten years. Shopping time.

Day 5, Sat., June 9 - Ehrwald – The Eagle’s Nest – a day tour to Berchtesgaden, Germany to visit Hitler’s infamous WWII retreat
“The Eagles Nest”. Also visit Innsbruck.

Day 6, Sun., June 10 – Ehrwald – Morning is at leisure. The village Catholic church is near our hotel. This afternoon we visit Linderhof Palace, inspired by Versailles Palace in Paris.

Day 7, Mon., June 11 – Zermatt, Switzerland – Morning departure. Through the western Austrian Alps, over Ariber pass and enjoy a noon day visit to the tiny country of Liechtenstein. Lunch and shop. Then continue through the Alps of Switzerland to Zermatt, the location of the majestic Matterhorn. We have 2 nights here. There is no car traffic in Zermatt. Great views and shopping.

Day 8, Tues., June 12 - Zermatt – Weather permitting we have a wonderful view of the Matterhorn. Highly recommended is the cogwheel train that can take us to 10,272 – foot Gornergrat Mountain for breathtaking panoramic view of the Matterhorn and the Alps.

Day 9, Wed., June 13 – Chamonix, France – Today we journey into the mighty French Alps, just south of Lake Geneva. We overnight in Chamonix, which features the world’s highest cable car and Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Europe. Chamonix was site of the first winter Olympics in 1929. We enjoy the sites.

Day 10, Thurs., June 14 – Annecy, France – More of the French Alps today as we move a short distance and begin to explore Annecy and the area often called the “Pearl of the French Alps” and also the “Venice of the Alps”. Recently awarded the “Golden Flowers” as one of the most – flowered French cities. Noted for lantern lit lanes.

Day 11, Fri., June 15 – Geneva, Switzerland – Today we explore stunning Geneva, the second largest city in Switzerland with its fantastic lakeside location – breathtaking panorama of the Alps. Enjoy a guided tour. Many international headquarters here – Red Cross, many U.N. agencies. Learn about John Calvin, the French theologian who helped reform the church. Optional lake cruise available.

Day 12, Sat., June 16 – Home – Today we fly home, arriving in the late afternoon..
