Day 1, Mon., Oct. 22 – Depart Baton Rouge (or home airport) for overnight flight to Brazil.
Day 2, Tues., Oct. 23 – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – Late morning arrival in Rio and transfer to hotel. Brazil is South America’s largest and most populace country. Remainder of day at leisure. Time to explore both Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, two of the world’s best known.
Day 3, Wed., Oct. 24 – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – Full day city tour. Visit one of the world’s most famous landmarks, the gigantic statue of Christ the Redeemer crowning Corcovado Mountain rising 2,300 feet to its top for a spectacular panoramic view. Journey through bustling downtown Rio. We visit 1,300 foot Sugar Loaf Mountain - ascend by cable car to its summit, where we savor spectacular vistas of this city and beach.
Day 4, Thurs., Oct. 25 – Iguazu Falls, Brazil – A morning flight to the natural wonder of Iguazu Falls (the Brazil side), the largest falls in the world, far larger than Niagara Falls and twice as wide as Victoria Falls. We spend the afternoon enjoying walking along these mighty waterfalls. The falls are more than two miles wide and as high as 250 feet. It is magnificent. Included dinner tonight.
Day 5, Fri., Oct. 26 – Buenos Aires, Argentina – Morning visit the Argentine side of the falls. Afternoon flight to Buenos Aires, often called the Paris of the South, with its wide boulevards and outdoor cafes.
Day 6, Sat., Oct. 27– Buenos Aires – Guided city tour includes colorful La Baca area, Plaza de Mayo, President’s Pink House, the metropolitan Cathedral housing San Martin’s Mausoleum, the ornate Colon Opera House, the Cemetery of the Recoleta, the burial site of Eva Peron. Tonight we enjoy dinner and a performance of the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires famous.
Day 7, Sun., Oct. 28 – Buenos Aires - Today we ferry across the wide Plata River and spend a few hours in the nation of Uruguay and their World Heritage Site of Colonia. Founded in 1680 and today is a charming city with narrow streets and old colonial buildings.
Day 8, Mon., Oct. 29 – Santiago, Chile – Today we fly across the Andes mountains, the second highest range in the world (only the Himalayas are higher) to Santiago, Chile’s beautiful capital nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the mighty Andes. Our afternoon tour of Santiago includes the Civic Center, Higgins Park and San Cristobal Hill for a panoramic view of the entire city. Thru the lovely residential districts of Las Condes and Vitacura.
Day 9, Tues., Oct. 30 – Santiago – A day excursion to the coastal cities of Valparaiso and beautiful Vina del Mar. Valparaiso is Chile’s main port and is a World Heritage Site. Enjoy the sea lions. Lunch is included.
Day 10, Wed., Oct. 31 – Santiago – Free time until our afternoon flight for the U.S.A.
Day 11, Thurs., Nov. 1 – Arrive in U.S.A.
