- Day 1, Saturday, August 10 – Depart Baton Rouge (or home airport) for our flight to Seoul.
Day 2, Sunday, August 11 – Seoul – We arrive in Seoul where we are greeted at the airport by our local guide and transfer to our hotel, Novotel Ambassador Seoul Dongdaemun Hotels, for overnight.
Day 3, Monday, August 12 – Seoul – Today, enjoy a tour with our English-speaking guide as we explore the city including the Gyeongbokgung Palace, Folklore Museum, Bukchon Hanok Village, Insa-dong, and Namdaemun Market. Back to our hotel for rest this evening.
Day 4, Tuesday, August 13 – Seoul – Today we enjoy a half-day tour exploring the D.M.Z - the demilitarized zone which incorporates territory from both South and North Korea as it existed at the end of the Korean War where peace discussions were held. After an included lunch, we’ll make our way to Namsangol Hanok Village, an ancient Korean village which features five restored traditional Korean houses, and see the N Seoul Tower, the second highest point in Seoul, standing at 236 meters tall. Overnight at our hotel.
Day 5, Wednesday, August 14 – Ulaanbaatar – Today we transfer back to the airport, where we’ll fly to Ulaanbaatar for the next portion of our adventure. We’ll meet our local guide and check into the iconic Blue Sky Hotel, located in the city’s central plaza, Sukhbaatar Square.
Day 6, Thursday, August 15 – Ulaanbaatar – Today, enjoy a walking tour with our local guide. Explore the country’s history at the Chinggis Khaan Museum, newly opened in Fall 2022. This evening, we’ll enjoy a folk music and dance performance by the renowned Tumen Ekh Ensemble.
Day 7, Friday, August 16– Dalanzadgad in the Gobi Desert- Today we fly to Dalanzadgad, the capital of South Gobi Province in the heart of the Gobi Desert. We’ll hike through Yolyn Am Canyon, and settle into a ger at Dream Gobi Lodge for two nights in the desert. The lodge is the desert’s premiere resort, featuring excellent food and service.
Day 8, Saturday, August 17– Flaming Cliffs – Today we travel east across a vast desert plain to the renowned Flaming Cliffs. The red sandstone cliffs are where the 1920s Central Asiatic Expeditions made the world’s first discovery of dinosaur eggs. Meet a family of nomadic herders. If you want, ride one of the Gobi’s legendary Bactrian camels.
Day 9, Sunday, August 18 – Genghis Khan- Today we fly back to Ulaanbaatar and enjoy a visit to the towering 131-foot tall Genghis Khan Statue. The statue was built in 2006 for the 800th anniversary of the Mongol Empire. Return to the Blue Sky Hotel for overnight.
Day 10, Monday, August 19- The Steppe – Today we travel west onto the vast Mongolian steppe, or grassland. Participate in a demonstration of steppe nomadic traditions and settle into the comfortable Mongol Nomadic Ger Camp for two nights.
Day 11, Tuesday, August 20 - Wild Horses– Today enjoy a day trip to Hustai National Park, home of the world’s last wild horses.
Day 12, Wednesday, August 21 - Ulaanbaatar– Today we visit the Gandantegchenlin Monastery, the center of Mongolian Buddhism.
Day 13, Thursday, August 22– Today we fly home with some incredible memories and stories to share with our family and friends!
