EASY TO MODERATE: Travelers will mostly engage in moderate walking during guided tours of historic districts, especially on cobblestone paths in Savannah and Charleston. There are days primarily dedicated to seated motor coach travel, punctuated with occasional brief sightseeing stops. - Day 1 - Sunday, April 14 - Kingsland, Georgia area – Today we motor coach along Interstate I-12 and I-10 across southern Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, through western Florida, and into Kingsland, GA for overnight.
Day 2 - Monday, April 15 - Savannah, Georgia - Mid-morning guided tour of Jekyll Island’s Historic Landmark District, one of the nation's largest restoration projects. View grand “cottages” once belonging to such notables as the Rockefellers and the Vanderbilts. Mid-day visit to St. Simon’s Island and afternoon arrival in the historic riverside city of Savannah, the largest National Historic Landmark area in the United States and our home for 2 nights. Free time to visit Riverside Walk.
Day 3 - Tuesday, April 16 - Savannah – This morning a guided tour of Savannah’s famed historic district. We stroll along the cobblestone-paved Factors Walk and River Street, where old cotton warehouses have been converted into shops and restaurants. Today’s included lunch will be at Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room. Afternoon tour of Juliette Gordon Low home, founder of the Girl Scouts.
Day 4 - Wednesday, April 17 - Charleston, South Carolina – This morning we drive north along the scenic South Carolina coast to the charming town of Beaufort for a mid-day visit. Also, visit the Marines’ Parris Island. Then on to Charleston, deemed the “charm spot of the South” and our home for two nights. History is found around every corner in this fascinating city, which is often referred to as a living museum. The City Market is a must for shoppers and the curious alike.
Day 5 -Thursday, April 18 - Charleston – Our morning guided tour highlights the many historic homes and restored buildings. We will stop at the battery overlooking Fort Sumter, where on April 12, 1861, the first shots of the Civil War were fired. Afternoon exploring and shopping in Old Town. Optional tours are available.
Day 6 - Friday, April 19 - Montgomery, AL – Morning journey across South Carolina to historic Augusta, Georgia for some brief sightseeing. Afterward, we will travel across central Georgia to Montgomery, Alabama where we’ll stay overnight.
Day 7 - Saturday, April 20 - Home - Morning departure for home through Mobile, then along I-10 into Louisiana and home.
